DROP-D present WE COME IN PIECES single Launch

Our next live broadcast is for the lovely gentle folk over at the massive DROP-D.ie who are hosting the the single launch for WE COME IN PIECES... broadcast start at 9pm wednesday all over the web including right here, on Drop-D's homepage, all over facebook & twitter too...

Limerick's finest and hardest-working math-punk trio We Come in Pieces are blazing a trail around Ireland before the release of their upcoming single "Sexy Rouge"!

As part of fund-raising for their upcoming album's release, as well as Irish, UK and US tours in 2012, Drop-d.ie is putting the lads on for a special gig in An Realt Dearg, Barrack Street on the 14th of December, with weirdo pop troupe Saint Yorda in tow.

Times are tough and around Christmastime sees everyone's pockets stretched, so we've declined to charge a set fee in, but as it's a fundraiser, you can pay what you want in (and every little helps) and all proceeds go to the WCIP tour fund!

WE COME IN PIECES:

http://www.facebook.com/wecomeinpieces
http://wecomeinpieces1.bandcamp.com/

WCIP are Shane Harrington (Guitar), Kieran Hayes (Vocals/Drums) and Kieran Sims (Bass/Vocals). They play loud music and have beards.

Formed in January 2010, they started gigging three days after their first practice, recorded their debut album three weeks later and took to every corner of the country to hone their energetic, high flying live show. They have played with the likes of Frank Turner, Tubelord, Throats, Maybeshewill and many other bands that they like to associate themselves with.

‘Before The Chains’ is a 32 minute long album that was produced for €600. The album deals with major sociological issues such as Die Hard, the shark from Jaws, blood and the effects of gangland crime on a modern urban landscape. It was released in late 2010 to absolutely no acclaim, by no record label, to a very limited amount of friends and family who pretend to care.

SAINT YORDA:

Minimal pop-surf-reverb doings from Cork City. Recent gigs with Alright the Captain, Narwhals and more have backed up a superb EP, "Some Songs We Did With Cathal" released on Bandcamp to cult acclaim in Cork and online.

Nicolas Jaar - Nico’s Bluewave Edits

Finally some of Nicolas Jaar's excellent edits surface on this Wolf & Lamb offshoot. These have been circulating for a while but they are so good that its about time they were released on a tangible, permanent format! Limited as always. Nico takes on Missy Elliott's "Work It" slowing down the vocal so it sounds like a male cover version and adding some eerie chords & congas for a radical re-take. The Blow's "Hey Boy" track is next to be Jaar-ed but the real gem for me is the radical version of Mike & The Censations "Theres Nothing I Can Do" , a delicious soulful number! Nico can restore your faith in re-edits!!!!

Tracklist:
01. Work It
02. Hey Boy
03. What My Last Girl Put Me Through

Various – Hot Natured Re Rubs Vol. 4

After a short hiatus, the highly sought after Hot Natured Re Rubs Series is back. Forth in the series features four great re-edit’s by Jamie Jones, Lee Foss, Miguel Campbell and Richy Ahmed & S.A.S.

Richy and SAS open the proceedings with a dirty ass slice of downtown funk and street hip hop, Lee Foss (Modern Amusement) slows the pace down and get’s stuck in to a sick 80’s jam. On the flip and Jamie Jones delivers a perfect disco summer groove, whilst Miguel Campbell delivers another 80’s inspired killer! It’s gonna be one hot summer at Hot Natured Mansions…

A1. Richy Ahmed & S.A.S – Pick Up The Pace
A2. Modern Amusement (Lee Foss) – Use To
B1. Electric Jones (Jamie Jones) – Michael’s Hotel
B2. Miguel Campbell – Active Touch

Giorgio Moroder & Martin Brodin - The Chase (2011)

After killing it on their tribute to Newcleus, MB Disco set their sights on electronic disco godfather and 'stache master Giorgio Moroder! Moroder's classic track for "The Chase" gets the 2011 revamp here from label head Martin Brodin with pumped up drums, effects and breakdowns that'll fully work on the floor. Thankfully the memorable melody isn't messed with, the rework(1) is pretty true to the OG, just with a new disco facelift. Also includes the dub mix(2). Recommended.

Phreek Plus One - Phreek Party

Phreek Plus One are Italy’s most kept secret luminaries in the world of disco. They don’t play at Berlusconi’s secret VIP partys, but they like the Bunga Bunga funk. All in here. Well, they are also associated with jazz, in fact they are jazz connoisseurs and rare record collectors, and approved selectors, as a matter of course top Italien mix DJs. Well, they are musicians, too, but never played the dodgy Italian Acid Jazz, while they were looking for the real cool good Baia Degli Angeli vibe, in fact they are at least inspired by Garage House, soulful 70ties and 80ties disco, Cosmic, Funk, Soul and Jazz.

Their previous released four EPs on Compost Black Label gained really cult status, while some tunes (for example like „Bikini“) caused a fuss on the underground disco circuit and their 12“ are still in demand, heavily played by Harvey, Gerd Janson, Pete Herbert, Tim Sweeney, Chateau Flight, Deetron, Tensnake, Holy Ghost, Sleazy McQueen, Anthony Mansfield, Permanent Vacation, Munk, Pete Tong, Ray Mang, Maurice Fulton and many many others (some selected quotes see below)
So you’ll find here their long awaited debut album „Phreek Party“ full of diced and spiced up boogie, funk house burners, pumping or slick groovin floor fillers, yes soulful disco-fied music, some with sheer blissful vocal contributions by Mr. White, Ovasoul7, Nasreen Shah or the legendary Antena.
Phreek Plus One are: Ivan Savoldi, Alessandro Cattenati, Giovanni Guerretti from Brescia. The project was founded by Ivan Savoldi (Ivan N.) and Alessandro Cattenati for their great love of Disco and funky music, while after some time a new component arrived in PP+1 : Giovanni Guerretti. Ivan Savoldi, better known in the clubland as Ivan N. DJ, producer and remixer, and resident DJ in two of the most important Italian house clubs: the “Fluid Club (Bg) and Amnesia Club (Mi)” ; furthermore and nowadays he is playing DJ sets in the most important clubs all over Italy and around the world. Alessandro Cattenatti, sounddesigner, he’s a great connoisseur and collector of Jazz, Funk, Disco and Brazilian music as well as Giovanni Guerretti, the musician, plays the keys from old Jazz to Nu-Jazz. Gio is Disco and Funk in one person. You can hook them up for a serious quality set of disco, jazzy disco, deep garage house tunes, cosmic and freak party tunes.

110th Street (Cian Ó Cíobháin & Cyril Briscoe) return to Cork City

110th Street is a bona fide Irish clubbing institution, that has raved its way through many venues and cities, since its inception in Galway, one starry night in November 1998. Run by Cian Ó Cíobháin (of An Taobh Tuathail, RnaG) and producer Cyril Briscoe (Dextris/ Ah! Kimono), the club has built up a stellar reputation as the Saturday night soundtrack of choice for different generations of clubbers and music lovers.

Originally conceived as a funk/soul/disco shindig in Galway's Town Hall venue, 110th Street has shapeshifted - sometimes quite dramatically - as musical passions have evolved through the years. There was the electroclash period from 2002-5, when the club introduced future stadium acts Erol Alkan, Soulwax and The Glimmers to Irish clubbers. There was the Berlin-inspired 'minimal' era from 2006-7, with the emphasis on hypnotic rhythms and bleeps. Indeed, there was even a brief period from 2007-8, when the DJs (who often played and produced under the SiSi moniker) spent some time on sabbatical, where it was reputed that they were spending their time stocking their wine cellars.

Cyril & Cian currently host occasional parties at Monroe's in Galway's vibrant westend, where - much like Glasgow's infamous Optimo nights - house, techno & disco records are merged together in the name of all things exultant and perspiring. Though 110th Street tends to be associated with its Galway heartland, the club has previously held residencies in Dublin (Red Box) and Cork (Redz and City Limits). This is Cyril & Cian's first joint party in Cork in donkey's years.

€10 tickets from PlugD records, the Old Oak or online at www.CyprusAvenue.ie and www.tickets.ie

Sir Norman Jay MBE on his way to play....

He is arguably one of the finest and most respected deejays in the world today

From the warehouse rave-ups of the ‘80s to becoming a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2002, Norman Jay has had one hell of a ride so far - most of it taken on his fleet of beloved Chopper bikes.
The kaleidoscopic range of music he loves and plays has always set him out as an eclectic DJ, but the cornerstone of the groove always joins the dots. Whether he’s deftly spinning a rare soul joint into a deep house number, or moving through heavy reggae into head-nod hip-hop, Norman always keeps the crowd moving.
For proof, ask anyone who has got seriously down to his Good Times Sound System at The Notting Hill Carnival.

On Saturday 15th June 2002, Norman was officially cited in the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Birthday Honours List with the recommendation that he be appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire, an MBE no less, awarded on merit for "deejaying and services to music". On Tuesday 12th November 2002, Norman was officially invited to attend a royal investiture at Buckingham Palace, London where he was duly invested and presented with the highly coveted MBE medal by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II herself. It is indeed the highest civilian honour yet conferred on anyone from the relatively new field of post modern UK club culture and black music - a fitting tribute in recognition of his many outstanding musical achievements and invaluable contributions to the world of popular dance music in a career spanning well over two decades.

Arveene & Misk - Did someone mention a PARTY???

http://www.arveeneandmisk.com/

Straight from the cities of Dublin and London are two producer/DJs who over the past two years have taken the underground by storm: Arveene & Misk. As remixers, their credits read like a whoÕs who in electronic dance music, including the likes of
Mr. Oizo, The Prodigy, Calvin Harris, Felix the Housecat, Zombie Nation, Kitsune, Ed Banger, Bang Gang, and Turbo. The same could be said about their supporters, among them being Fake Blood, Annie Mac, Tiga, Busy P, DJ Mehdi, Brodinski, Boy 8-bit, Burns, Sinden, Jaymo & Andy George, and of course Erol Alkan who has backed Arveene & MiSK since day one. Since the release of their massive ÒHellÕs Bells,Ó the duo has been on a music production mission. Their second release, which dropped on highly respected Aussie dance label Bang Gang, was the beautifully twisted piece of electro ÒEavesdropper.Ó

Since then, Arveene & MiSK, in between live performances, have been living in the studio working on their debut album which promises to be a genre-busting collection of dance floor heat that showcases the wide breadth of their musical tastes, their skill as machine manipulators and their ever-growing sophistication as song writers.

FRESH BLOOD - Patrick Weblin

We recently sat down and had a chat with up & comming Dj Patrick Weblin prior to him featuring at the first installment of FRESH BLOOD in Cyprus Avenue on sat 19th March.

we asked him what makes him tic and how he got into the game...here is what he had to say...

"...my love for music started off with listening to acts like the prodigy and chemical brothers,
but soon expanded into different genres, including house, trance, drum n bass, but especially techno, anything that could get me moving really.
one dj in picticular made me wanna be a dj and its the man himself carl cox, i just love his talents on the decks, he is with out a doubt the very best dj in the world
and im sure not alot of people would disagree with me,
i remember listening to his album non stop 98 and i was hooked instantly,
carl cox was being interviewed for sum dj magazine that i used to read when i was younger and he said one thing i will never forget,he said play what you enjoy playing,
and thats exactly what i do, i play music that i love to play.
i got my first set of decks when i was 15 and used to play them night and day,
goin up to cork into record shops and spendin all my wages on vinyl.
i only started playing gigs recently, within the last 2 years, and it all started by me sending in a mix to a website that my friends were members of (purehousemusic.net)
it got great reviews and was most downloaded and listened to mix for 2 months running,
then a internet music station called SHEDfm got in touch and asked would i be interested in doin a couple gigs around the city and in my home town bandon,
which i gladly accepted, was bit nervous at first but when i got into it i couldn stop smiling.
and here i am now, playing my biggest gig to date on the 19th march, in cypress avenue, proudly playing along side the new best djs in cork city,"

below is a little taster of what you can expect from Patrick on the 19th....
